LUNGI & CHAPPAL FOR MINISTERS NOT TRUCK DRIVERS

PC Indian Express
Times are changing, so is our country! In a latest shocker, under new provisions of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act, truck drivers will no longer be able to sport their favorite Lungi and Baniyan anymore in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Not only drivers, even cleaners will be slapped with a fine of  Rs. 2,000 if caught wearing their favorite if caught wearing lungi and vest. The new act compels them to sport wear full pants, proper shirt and closed shoes.

The Additional Transport Comissioner of UP Gangaphal told TOI that the central MV Act gives every state the power to formulate certain traffic safety rules. But what the state of UP didn't consider while coming up with a ludicrous rule as such is the HEAT inside truck cabins and the long hours that truck drivers have to drive everyday.

The lungi is a light and versatile piece of clothing and its offers truck drivers the comfort and freedom they need while driving in extremely hot conditions.

It's only natural that the truck drivers are raising objections over it.
